Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) are delighted to announce that following the RBC Race for the Kids sponsored run, held in London on Sunday 6 June, a record-breaking £258, 000 has been raised for the children’s charity.

Tim Johnson, Executive Director of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity said, “We are hugely grateful to everyone who took part in the RBC Race for the Kids. The money raised from the event will make a big difference to the thousands of children who are treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital every year. The fact that the sponsored run raised more than twice its targets reflects overwhelming public support for the charity. We can’t wait to build on this success next year!”

Speaking about the partnership, Doug McGregor, Chairman and co-CEO of RBC Capital Markets said, “I’m excited that in our first year working with the Great Ormond Street Hospital we have seen such tremendous support from both our employees and the public. We are delighted this year’s event has been so successful and are committed to continuing to build strong partnerships with charities in the regions where we operate. We will continue to support this fantastic cause in 2011.”

More than 1,200 people participated in the 5k run. The money raised will help to rebuild and refurbish this internationally renowned children’s hospital, buy vital equipment and support pioneering research. The funds raised by RBC this year will specifically contribute towards the Neurosciences Centre, due to be completed in 2016.
