Pay is strongest motivation for IT staff movement, says survey

Financial services companies can expect plenty of IT workers to seek new positions in the next 12 months, according to a survey.

Data from Hays Recruitment suggested that issues such as pay are a significant factor in the decision of many employees to move on.

Around two-thirds of respondents told the agency that they intended to begin their job hunt in the next three months.

Sam Corcoran, a director at Hays Finance Technology, said that increased workloads and redundancies have also played a role in decreased loyalty from IT workers, as well as declining financial rewards.

He stressed that many professionals believe their salary progression has been hindered by the recession and "are no longer willing to stay in their current role when they believe they may be able to receive a higher salary elsewhere".

It follows recent data from HireScore suggesting many staff in other sectors were considering a change of position or profession, although there was no confirmed link to benefits, pay or rewards in the data.
