Firms 'should maximise employees' transferable skills'UK employers may be able to make the most of the company’s potential and that of their staff by using their transferable skills in a range of tasks, it has been suggested.

Spokesperson for the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Mike Petrook believes there is a greater need for project work and noted a number of enterprises the CMI has spoken to revealed they are bringing in different candidates for various challenges.

He said: "What they are doing there is looking at the skill sets that people offer and then when one project finishes they are looking to use those skills elsewhere."

Furthermore, Mr Petrook indicated that this kind of thinking from employers is good for a company’s development as well as boosting workers’ all-round ability.

This follows a report published this week by Capita Learning and Development, which revealed that 70 per cent of business leaders believed inadequate skills in their workforce might hinder the possibility of their firm making the most of the economic recovery.
