Number of Greek workers looking for jobs in the UK soars

Following the current debt crisis in Greece, CV-Library, the UK’s leading independent job board, has announced a record number of Greek workers are searching for jobs in the UK.

The site has reported the number of web visits received from Greek workers in the past week is up by 111 percent, compared with the same week in July 2014.

Historical data from the job site suggests that traffic from Greece is normally flat and steady, with a normal decline over the summer months, which is typical in the recruitment sector. This data compared with the latest figures, indicates that the unusually high volume of Greek visitors looking for UK jobs is a direct result of the country’s current state of austerity.

The latest web traffic figures also reveal that in the last month, traffic from Greek servers are up 55.9 percent. This is the highest historical level the site has experienced in the month of July and is already eclipsing all visits from the previous month.

Lee Biggins, CV-Library’s founder and managing director, comments:

“In times of austerity, it is not surprising that foreign workers seek job opportunities further afield. Our latest findings suggest that this is exactly what is currently happening in Greece. With the country facing times of such uncertainty, we expect this to continue well into the coming weeks.”

While most British job site don’t allow applications from non-UK residents, there is a clear interest among Greek workers to look for work outside of Greece in anticipation of what lies ahead.
