Tesco set to eliminate 2,000 jobs

-

Tesco has announced that more than 2,000 roles may be eliminated.

This statement comes at a time when Tesco announces further changes to its stores.

The number of lead and team managers in large UK stores will be cut by approximately 1,700.

To fulfil these operational duties, 1,800 “shift leader” roles will be created to manage the shops day-to-day, working on lower salaries.

Along with changing shop management teams, the closure of hot deli, meat and fish counters will also accompany these major changes.

Staff will be offered alterative roles, or redundancy packages.

“We will be doing all we can to support members throughout the process with a view to protecting jobs and, where this is not possible, securing the best possible deal for those affected,” said Daniel Adams, National Officer of the Usdaw union, which represents Tesco workers.
