Sacked oil refinery workers reinstated

Work is back on at Lindsey oil refinery It could be said that retention has been the order of the day, as workers who were fired last week from their posts at Lindsey oil refinery have been reinstated today (June 26th).

A new deal between the Total-run refinery and union leaders has brought week long strike action at the plant to a halt, reports suggest.

Workers at the site initiated wildcat strikes after 51 employees lost their jobs, later leading to the refinery firing the 647 people who walked out in protest.

Les Bayliss, of the Unite union, said: "Following hours of detailed negotiations we now have proposals for a return to work which will be recommended by the stewards to the workforce."

He added that while employers had agreed to give the sacked workers – including the 51 employees originally fired – back their jobs, the details still have to be put to the workforce.

However, oil firm Total claims that the industrial action has delayed the building of the new HDS-3 desulphurisation unit.
