EHRC launches transgender report

-

A report has been launched into discrimination against transgender peopleThe Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has this week launched a report into the experiences of transgender people living and working in the UK, which may highlight any discrimination they face.

It is hoped the Trans Research Review will examine all aspects of such people’s lives, from possible playground bullying to discrimination in the workplace from colleagues or managers.

Research from the commission in Wales has already revealed that 45 per cent of people would be unhappy if one of their close relatives began a relationship with a transgender individual, while a third felt such people would be unsuitable in the role of a school teacher.

The EHRC has claimed that it hopes the report will "produce guidance to help public bodies to review and revise their Gender Equality Schemes so that they are better informed about discrimination against transgender people and can better meet their legal obligation to eliminate it".

Meanwhile, the Department for Work and Pensions has recently revealed that racial discrimination is still a problem in terms of recruitment.
