Firms should offer retirement guidance, says expertAn expert has advised British companies to improve their current provisions of retirement advice in time for the impending scrapping of the default retirement age and claimed workers are coming to expect such services.

Dave Sinclair, training director at lifestyle guidance organisation Laterlife, pointed out that many staff aged over 50 want to see their employer assisting them with their preparations for life after work.

"With the demise of the default retirement age next year … we are expecting [companies] to send people on retirement courses," he said, adding that individuals often need help in making the decision to leave employment or stay on.

Laterlife managing director Tony Clark added that his own firm had seen a significant increase in the number of people expressing an interest in pre-retirement courses in spite of the recent economic uncertainty.
