Celebrities support social work recruitment scheme

Sadie Frost is supporting a new recruitment schemeA number of famous faces have got behind a new recruitment campaign to attract people to join the social work profession, it is reported.

Actress and fashion designer Sadie Frost, former EastEnders star Michelle Ryan, actresses Samantha Morton and Emilia Fox, Skins star Nicholas Holt, Gavin and Stacey’s Joanna Page and rapper Goldie will feature in a TV campaign which aims to attract more people to the sector.

They will each take on the role of either a child or adult who needs help from social services.

Ms Morton said: "My early life from infancy to leaving home at 16 was spent in care. I had some wonderful social workers who supported me and helped me achieve my goals in life. That’s why it’s important to recruit more social workers."

And Goldie noted that he would not be where he is today if it was not for the help and support he received from social workers as a child.

The Confederation of British Industry recently urged that a quarter of the government’s £500 million recruitment stimulus be used to subsidise 50,000 new apprenticeships for young people.
