Logistics sector ‘aiming to appeal to women’

-

The logistics sector in the UK is striving to become more appealing to female workers, according to one expert in the field.

Dr Mick Jackson, acting chief executive of Skills for Logistics, stated that, although there is "a long way to go" in terms of encouraging women into the field, changes have been instituted.

He went on to identify flexible working practices as one such change, along with the development of improved working facilities for female employees, which offered "better social facilities".

Dr Jackson added: "[There are] even job opportunities that are based around working from home to fit in with family requirements."

Skills for Logistics is the sector skills council which operates alongside firms involved in the moving, handling and storing of goods.

It aims to raise awareness of skills issues within the sector, as well as to offer practical advice and support on all aspects of skills development and training.
