AS THE UK JOB-HUNTS ON-THE-GO

  • 50 per cent rise in number of UK jobseekers using Gumtree on their mobile
  • Searches for London-based jobs up 35 per cent since April 2012
  • Gumtree app downloaded more than a million times since February 2012

Time-poor UK jobseekers are turning to internet on the go with their mobiles to land a job according to new research by Gumtree.com. In the year to date, mobile searches for UK jobs on Gumtree.com have soared 50 per cent* and in the past three months alone they have increased by 40 per cent. For London-based jobs, searches on mobiles are up 44 per cent year on year and 27 per cent over the past three months.

Gumtree has found that the average job vacancy will receive 38 individual applications in London and 18 outside of London. 70 per cent of applicants are between 15 and 35 years old and a further 70 per cent of jobs advertised are under £35,000 a year**. Matt Gregory, Head of Recruitment and Classified Sales at Gumtree.com says: “Gumtree.com offers more unique job ads than any other recruitment website and the rises we’ve seen year on year indicates that there is a stronger than ever demand for jobs across the UK.

The introduction of both our mobile site and new app really is transforming the way people interact with the Gumtree site and we’ve seen that applicants aren’t going to wait until the end of the day; they’re going to be checking for available jobs wherever they are, 24/7.
