Post Office two day strike announced on August Bank Holiday

Up to 4000 staff across 372 Crown or Main Post Offices will strike either side of the Bank Holiday weekend this August 2013. The strike will be UK wide on saturday 24th August and then in Scotland only on Monday 26th August and then in the rest of the UK on tuesday 27th August. Post Office staff voted by nine to one in favour of strike action and have already closed Post Offices on nine separate occasions this year. The strike is a five-month long dispute over the Post Office´s plans to either close or franchise out 75 Crown Post Offices across the UK and to shed 1500 jobs in the process. Dave Ward, the CWU deputy general secretary said ´This is the first time we have announced two days of strike action at the same time and the first time we have announced back-to-back days of strike action. Coupled with the 90% yes vote by members for industrial action short of strike, the message can’t be much stronger to Post Office management.´
