Flexible working can reduce stress, expert claims

-

Bosses have been urged by one expert to consider granting workers the right to flexible working wherever possible, as such arrangements can help to reduce stress and boost staff loyalty.

Workforce Logistics principal consultant and manager Dr Ken Beaumont backed new legislation aimed at extending the provision of flexible working and suggested it can have a positive impact on relations between employees and management..

“The right to request flexible working ought to be an employee’s right,” he said. “The current legislation allows certain classes of people to request it but doesn’t force the employer to give it.”

Dr Beaumont added that the changes should make UK workforces more productive and happier, allowing them to fit their duties around their other commitments and interests and not just limiting flexible working to parents with young children.
