Young people ‘need to be told companies are recruiting’

-

Young people should be made aware of the opportunities that are available to them, according to one organisation.

As the number of jobs available decrease, younger people should ensure that they stand out from the crowd and gain relevant experience.

This is according to Paul Brown, director of marketing and communications at the Prince’s Trust, who encourages young people to look across the spectrum of companies that are recruiting and be sure to take every opportunity.

This demonstrates a willingness to enter the job market, Mr Brown said.

Mr Brown commented: "The message we need to send to young people is that everybody has skills and talents, and there is an employment opportunity available for them.

"They just need the right opportunities to demonstrate what they are good at and the opportunities to discover what options are best for them."

Job vacancy figures in the first quarter of 2009 showed the lowest number of employment opportunities since comparable records began in 2001.
