Training skills ‘key for career in accountancy’

Jobs which offer training skills as part of a career development programme are a good option for people working in the accountancy sector, according to one expert.

Rob Alder, business development manager at the Association of Accounting Technicians, suggested that anyone who would like a career in accountancy should find a position that offers training as part of the package.

Getting the right qualifications and gaining the skills needed is very important, the expert went on to say.

“This really shows your commitment to the profession and that you have the right skills to do the job. A training contract is the most cost-effective way of doing this,” Mr Alder added.

He also suggested that “doing the books for a local charity or group” is a good option for individuals who are hoping to gain more experience.

Recently, a spokesperson for Jobsite encouraged people to focus on their career development by boosting their skills over the coming year so that they are in a better position to ask for a pay rise when the economy picks up.
