Paul Statham, CEO and founder of Condeco Software, believes work environment is key to talent attraction and productivity

The latest official government figures reveal that more young people are entering the workforce than ever before, with youth unemployment falling by 200,000 in five years. With ‘Generation Z’ now entering the workforce, companies in all sectors and industries are under pressure to create an innovative modern workplace that will help them secure the best new talent.

The latest ONS employment figures for the April 2015 to June 2015 quarter, released last week, reveal the percentage of people under the age of 25 who have found employment after leaving full-time education is the highest since the peak of the recession.

Paul Statham, CEO and Founder of Condeco Software comments: “There are some amazing employees out there, but with competition so high, companies need to provide very high quality work environments to attract them. With Generation Z now entering the workplace in force, an agile, technology-driven working environment is more important than ever.

“Employers must make sure that they create a workplace environment which attracts the top talent of this age group and at the same time takes advantage of their technological skills to boost productivity.  These potential employees entering the job market will be the first true digital natives and they want more than just a good salary – they want businesses to understand their abilities and what motivates them.”

“To achieve this, leading companies are investing in the latest workplace technology to create an activity-based working environment that provides employees with the space to work, meet and collaborate. Condeco Software provides such technology to allow staff to schedule the working areas and collaboration space they need, where and when they need it. Gone are the days of out-dated workplace practices such as sitting at a fixed desk every working day of your life. The workplace must reflect the digitally connected world we live in today and leading companies must ensure that their office is smart and agile. If they fail to make these adaptations to the office they risk missing out on the top talent of Generation Z.”

Generation Z is classified as those who were born in the mid-90s to early ’00s. According to the recent 2015 Way To Work survey by Adecco Staffing in the USA, the majority (32 percent) of this generation state that their greatest aspiration is to be in their dream job within 10 years from now. Salary is much lower down the list of priorities for these workers with only six per cent saying this is the most important aspect of their first job, highlighting the fact that leading companies must invest in software which will improve the day-to-day experience for every employee.
