Women ‘struggling to find IT jobs’

Women have been finding it particularly difficult to make inroads into the IT industry since the onset of the financial downturn and may have no choice to but to be patient while the economy picks up, an expert has suggested.

Maggie Berry – managing director of womenintechnology.co.uk – told the recent 360 IT event at Earls Court that despite concerted efforts, there remains a paucity of female workers at British technology companies.

"There's certainly been a decrease in the volume of jobs available generally and so following on from that there has been a decrease in jobs available to women as well," she explained. "It's been tough all round."

Ms Berry added that she has been advising job seekers to simply wait for the fortunes of British IT businesses to recover, but hinted there may be little improvement until next year.
