People with learning difficulties ‘subjects of productivity scheme’

Britons with learning difficulties are set to be helped into work and boost their productivity by offering them internships, it has been reported.

Project Search has made a series of internships available in order to help boost the social skills of such individuals and also help them to secure more long-term working opportunities.

Commenting on the news, minister for disabled people Jonathan Shaw said: "We realise that only a small number of people with learning disabilities who receive adult social services are in work and we know that many more want real jobs."

He added that it was important to provide the support necessary to help such people to find employment and that Project Search is a "vital programme".

Meanwhile, minister for care services Phil Hope stated that work played an important role in helping people to feel valued.
