Job opportunities still available, expert claims

An expert has insisted that youngsters looking to go straight into work after receiving their GCSE results have a wide range of choices available to them, despite worries over the strength of the economy.

People First chief executive Brian Wisdom advised students awaiting the outcome of this summer’s exams to consider a career away from further education and pointed out that the battle for places is becoming increasingly challenging.

“They are receiving their results against a very tough outlook where there is a pinch on jobs [and] there is increasing competition [for] college places,” he said. “There are many opportunities out there, not just in education, but with good employers.”

Mr Wisdom urged newcomers to the employment market to seek out a company which can provide good training courses and claimed the tourism industry offers particularly impressive opportunities.

Entrepreneurs looking to step up their own training schemes could benefit from attending the Talent Management and Leadership Development Summit 2010 in London in October.
