Redundant man wins at employment tribunal

An Evesham printing firm, which faced financial problems, has been ordered by an employment tribunal to pay compensation to a former employee it made redundant.

The Evesham Journal reports that Jamie Hill of Dorsington Road, Pebworth, made a claim against Create Design & Print of Port Street, Evesham, after accusing the firm of unfair dismissal, along with a breach of holiday pay and contract.

Representing the group, Mark Ramsbottom explained that it had been experiencing monetary difficulties, leading it to decide that Mr Hill’s services were not needed.

However, Mr Hill alleged the company had not carried out the correct dismissal procedure and so was in breach of employment law.

He has now been awarded just under £5,000.

“There was a lack of discussion about the redundancy situation,” Mr Hill stated.

The news comes after the Tribunals Service released research revealing that unfair dismissal claims filed at employment tribunals increased by 29 per cent in the year ending March 2009.
