The Great Benefits Debate – Design vs Comms

-

About this Edition

In the recently published 2023 UK Benefits Strategy & Benchmarking survey conducted by Gallagher, the top challenges cited by respondents included the relationship between getting the right benefits design and effectively communicating the benefits available.

Nearly all companies will be at different points on their benefits journey, and understanding the nuances of benefits design and communication can often be overlooked.

In this podcast, reward expert Sarah Jefferys, Head of Reward Consulting at Gallagher, and Andrew Drake, Director of People Experience Consulting at Gallagher, put forward their cases in a lively debate about the importance of design vs. communication, which should you prioritise and why.

Guest: Sarah Jefferys, Head of Reward Consulting at Gallagher
Sarah Jefferys has over 20 years of reward experience, including 12 years leading the global reward function at Lloyd’s of London, where she set reward strategy, managed annual pay reviews, designed bonus plans, provided benefits, and conducted pay benchmarking and employee engagement and communication. She also has broader HR experience in HR systems, management information, and process improvement.

Guest: Andrew Drake, Director of People Experience Consulting at Gallagher
Andrew spent 14 years accumulating vast experience in HR technology and employee benefits. He is passionate about optimising the employee experience and helping people feel differently about work. His work has included presentations at industry events in HR technology, wellbeing, and employee experience.

Questions for Sarah and Andrew include:

  • How can companies balance the benefits design and communication to maximise employee satisfaction and engagement?
  • What challenges do organisations face when designing and communicating their benefits packages?
  • How can companies ensure they are effectively communicating benefits to all employees, especially those with diverse needs?
  • What role do managers play in ensuring the benefits package is understood and utilised effectively by employees?
