HSE warns businesses not to overspend on health and safety poster

-

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is warning UK businesses not to be “duped” into spending money on overpriced copies of its health and safety law poster.

Employers are legally required to display the poster prominently in the workplace or provide their staff with a card-sized copy, the group asserts.

However, it notes that there has recently been “misleading” reports that the poster needs to be replaced with an update immediately and that enough copies should be purchased to be attached to every notice board in the workplace.

The HSE claims that these reports are untrue and that to ensure a poster is the correct one, managers can simply check the serially numbered hologram.

Vinny Kenny, from the HSE, said: “The information that is being sent out by some companies may be misleading under consumer protection legislation and we want to put a stop to it.”

Judith Hackitt, chair of the HSE, recently stated that health and safety advisers require accreditation to ensure they meet the standards of professional competence.
