Vocational training ‘likely to be a growing trend in talent management’

Talent management professionals might soon be seeing more young people applying for positions who have chosen the vocational path, rather than those who have gone to university, it has been claimed.

Sarah Clover, business development manager at notgoingtouni.co.uk, said it makes sense for young people to examine all their options and at present, the value of a degree has diminished, while having hands-on experience can help people set themselves apart form the crowd.

"Taking the vocational route is a strong alternative for some people as it allows you to gain the hands-on experience which employers are looking for and as an apprentice you get paid a minimum of £95 per week too," she commented.

According to the Graduate Management Admission Council, new graduates of MBA and other graduate management education programmes are contending with a tough job market that has made landing employment before leaving university the exception rather than the norm.
