Social media ‘will play role in recruitment’

-

HR teams planning a recruitment drive in the new year have been advised to consider social media as a way of locating potential candidates.

Indeed, a recent survey by CareerBuilder.com has revealed social media is going to be priority for development among companies in 2010.

While 37 per cent of surveyed employers plan to put a greater emphasis on social media in 2010 to create a more positive brand for their organisation, one in five hope to add social media responsibilities to a current employee.

Commenting on the news, Richard Doherty, group vice-president of solutions at Jobpartners, said social media will also play an increasingly important role in attracting top talent to businesses.

“Corporate recruiters will be following what many recruitment agencies are already doing and using social networks to provide company information and set up interest groups to source candidates,” he added.

Mr Doherty claimed the key to success in social media will be ensuring it is aligned and integrated with an organisation’s existing recruitment processes.
