Recruitment expert urges graduates to be flexible

The latest Report on Jobs by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and accountancy company KPMG showed that temporary and permanent staffing had both increased during June, but at a lesser rate than earlier this year.

According to the survey, which asked UK recruitment consultancies about the number of vacancies and appointments they are dealing with, another strong rise occurred in long-term staff placements, underpinned by demand for full-time employees.

Temporary staff billings eased in terms of their growth rate but remained solid, while Bernard Brown, partner and head of business services at KPMG, noted there has been a clamour for new workers across a range of sectors, but stressed there may be an impact from public sector efficiency savings.

Last week, Duncan Brown, director of HR business development for the Institute for Employment Studies, warned that cuts in the public sector could lead to reductions in service provisions for the public.
