No skills shortage in IT, says recruiter

An expert has played down suggestions that Britain's IT sector could face a skills shortage over the coming years and insists that there are still plenty of talented individuals seeking work.

David Fleming, associate director at recruitment firm Badenoch & Clark, pointed out that the recent increase in demand for staff is largely a result of technology spending cuts and should not be interpreted as evidence of a talent gap.

"I think we're way off having a skills shortage," he said. "There are certain newer technologies where staff are in more demand, but it is still a market whereby there are a lot of people out there looking for work."

Mr Fleming added that there are a number of other industries in similar situations and suggested job hunters with the relevant IT skills could find their services highly sought-after.
