Around 6,000 placements are expected to be made available as a result of the coalition's £10 million cash injection for health service organisations, with a long-term target of 75,000 apprenticeships being set for the coming years.
"The coalition government has made apprenticeships a top priority so that we can continue to invest," said minister of state for health Simon Burns. "This extra funding for apprenticeships will give young people the chance to learn important skills."
Further education and skills minister John Hayes also welcomed the announcement and insisted that such training projects are highly valued by both apprentices and employers alike.
Infrastructure firm Amey recently launched an apprenticeship academy in the West Midlands in a bid to reduce youth unemployment in the region, the Birmingham Mail reported.
