Job-seekers have been encouraged to equip themselves with as broad a range of skills as possible.

“Those who are prepared to undertake training and have a wide range of skills are more likely to be seen as good value for money and retained,” she commented.

Ms Clover noted that those who have consistently broadened their knowledge and find themselves out of a job are generally better placed to deal with this situation.
This, she said, is because their enhanced skills set means they have more options available to them.
Ms Clover was speaking after the Office for National Statistics revealed that the employment rate for 16 to 64-year-olds in the three months to October 2010 was 0.1 per cent down on the previous quarter at 70.6 per cent.
