How training could increase job opportunities

Training and re-education could see unemployed Britons increasing their chances of finding work, whether independently or through recruitment agencies.

Farhan Yasin, president in Europe, the Middle East and Africa of CareerBuilder.com, said the site had noticed a recent increase in listings for sales, marketing and IT job.

He added that employers were increasingly opting to move away from cutting costs in order to focus on initiatives designed to increase revenue as they come out of the recession.

However, Mr Yasin added: "What we are hearing from employees is that although they are hosting their job listings, they are not finding the right people, therefore hiring is flat."

In light of this, he claimed that his belief was that there is a disparity between the skills necessary to gain employment within these emerging sectors of the UK economy.

For this reason, the commentator said it was important workforces were re-educated in the areas that would present long-term job opportunities.

Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics have revealed that the employment rate for the three months to February 2010 was 72.1 per cent.
